Thieves Vinegar

Thieves Vinegar

I’m sure you have heard of Thieves Oil, but have you heard of Thieves Vinegar?  It is another fabled combination of herbs which was said to discourage the onset of the plague in times past.  Unlike the oil, this preparation is meant to support the immune system from the inside out!  Let's make some together.

You will need:

  • 1 Bulb of Fresh Garlic
  • ¼ Cup Holy Basil cut
  • (or Sweet Basil)
  • ¼ Cup Lavender Flowers
  • ¼ Cup Rosemary Leaves
  • 2 Tbsp Thyme Leaves
  • 2 Tbsp Juniper Berries
  • 1 Tbsp Oregano Leaf Powder
  • (or 2 Tbsp Oregano Leaf cut)
  • 1 Tsp Whole Cloves
  • Raw, Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 1 Sanitized Quart Mason Jar

Instructions:

  1. Peel and chop or crush the garlic cloves and add them straight into the mason jar.

  2. Add all of the dry herbs to your mason jar.

  3. Pour apple cider vinegar over your herbs until they are fully covered, and leave approximately 1 inch from the rim open.

  4. Lid the jar, shake and then leave in a warm place, possibly near a sunny window, 1 month to 6 weeks.  Shake the jar at least one to two times daily.  Note: If leaving the jar in direct sunlight, you may want to put it in a brown paper bag.

  5. When it is time, strain out the herbs and bottle your infused vinegar.

This vinegar can be used like shrub in a mocktail or cocktail, combined with oil for a tasty salad dressing, mixed with honey to make a simple oxymel, added to a fire cider, or consumed straight like a tincture to support the immune system daily.
