Tropi-kal Holiday Punch - Infused With Kava
Would you like to know my secret recipe for a chill family holiday gathering? Here is my recipe for Tropikal Holiday Punch, infused with Kava!
Mix 1 ½ Tbsp Cassia Cinnamon powder, 2 Tsp Ginger Root powder, 1 Tsp Clove powder, ½ Tsp Nutmeg powder, and 3 Tbsp of Kava Kava Root powder together and pour the mixture into a clean muslin cloth bag. Close it up and set it aside for a moment. Next, add 1 quart of non-carbonated apple cider, 2 cups pineapple juice, and 1 cup orange juice to a crockpot set to low. Now you can add your muslin bag to the pot. You may want to use a clean spoon to push the bag into the juice until it is fully saturated with the juice. Put the lid on and allow the mixture to simmer on low for 3 ½ hours. After this time, turn the heat off and stir in 1 Cup of Coconut Milk while the mixture is still warm. Allow the punch to sit for at least 30 minutes after adding the milk to maximize the Kava extraction. You can choose to serve this punch warm or cold depending on your preference. It can be jarred, and kept in the fridge for up to 48 hours. It is best not to leave the herb bag in the punch any longer than 24 hours. When you are ready, simply strain and discard your herbs. The coconut milk may separate from the juices, but just give it a quick shake or stir before serving.
In addition to tasting and smelling amazing, this punch blend may also help to promote the digestion of a big meal. This recipe draws inspiration from traditional recipes for holiday meads and wassails which were traditionally served with large feasts. Apple Cider, Orange Juice, and the spice profile are staples in these recipes, but the Pineapple Juice could be swapped out for Pomegranate or Cranberry Juice to suit personal tastes.
