With all the tea infusers to choose from, it can be hard to decide which might be best for you. Let's take a look at some of the most common options so you can determine which is right for you or a particular herb project.
Mesh Tea Ball on Chain: This option is best for making infusions with cut herbs. These infusers have a small swiveling latch which holds the ball shut while infusing, and there is a small hook on the chain to drape over the edge of the cup. This makes it easy to retrieve the infuser when your desired steep time is up!
Mesh Tea Ball with Handle: This is another cut herb infusion option. The tea ball itself is spring loaded; squeeze the handle and the ball will pop open. Continue to squeeze the handle. Release the pressure once the ball is filled and your herbs are ready to infuse! Additionally, this tea ball can be used to stir your infusion before setting aside.
Reusable Muslin Tea Bags: Muslin bags can be used to steep herbal infusions made with cuts or powders. The muslin bags are eco-friendly, economic, and super easy to use. Before the first use, wash the bags with hot water and mild dish detergent until the water runs clear, and allow the bags to air dry. The bags will shrink which gives a finer strain. When ready, add the powdered herbs to the bag, cinch it shut with the drawstring, and tightly wrap the extra string around the top of the bag to “tie it shut.” Next, drop the bag into a cup and pour your water over the bag to infuse. When the desired steep time is up, squeeze and remove the bag. Dump, Wash, rinse, and reuse as long as the bag can last!
